The Top Reasons To Get a Sump Pump in Tennessee

The Top Reasons To Get a Sump Pump in Tennessee

Our climate in Tennessee means that we see plenty of rainfall and a decent bit of snowfall every year. It also means that rivers and lakes can quickly fill up and overflow their banks. When it comes to your home, the best way to protect your family, your possessions, and the structure itself is to install a reliable sump pump and stay on top of the maintenance and repairs the unit requires.

At Michael’s Plumbing Service, we offer a wide range of top-quality models carefully selected to match the needs of our clients that will deliver exceptional performance.

What Do Sump Pumps Do?

Sump pumps are different than sewage ejector pumps. Sewage ejector pumps are designed to raise wastewater to the same level as the main sewer line so it can be removed from your home. Conversely, sump pumps sit within a sump pit that’s about 30 inches deep. There, the pump sits silently waiting until water fills the pit. As the pit fills, the sensors within the pit initiate the sump pump which then uses a motor and impeller to pump the water out of your home.

Capacity varies by make and model, but most homes have pumps with a capacity of around 25 gallons per minute. This is sufficient for most burst pipes and heavy rainfall but would be insufficient for a major flood that can fill your home with hundreds of gallons per minute. Finally, sump pumps are designed so that when the water stops flowing into the pit, the pump will turn off automatically.

Protect Your Valuables & Property

Your home is one of the most valuable possessions you own. Within it, it’s filled with invaluable assets that simply can’t be replaced. From your family to the photos in the frames, protecting your valuables is one of the most important benefits sump pumps offer. Not only do they keep irreplaceable items safe, they help you avoid the headaches and hassles that occur when rising waters infiltrate your home. For example, the significant damage water can cause to your electrical systems, the damage it can do to drywall and flooring, and the mold and mildew that can proliferate when waters penetrate the crawl space.

Further, sump pumps help you avoid many insurance hassles that can end up costing you a pretty penny in the form of higher premiums and deductibles. Installing a sump pump gives you added protection before a flood occurs and after when your insurer asks why you didn’t install a sump pump.

Avoid a Plumbing Leak Disaster

You may not live in an area that suffers frequent floods or runoff from heavy storms, but that doesn’t mean your home isn’t at risk of a plumbing disaster. The overwhelming majority of problems caused by water damage are caused by burst pipes. The pipes within your home pose a greater risk of damage than floods or runoff, and it’s essential to proactively protect your home.

In addition to installing a sump pump, we strongly recommend scheduling regular plumbing inspections every one to two years to look for leaks and other damage. Hiring a professional plumber ensures that the freshwater and wastewater pipes are in good repair, the supply lines are properly connected, toilets and drains are functioning properly, and more. Our plumbing experts can inspect every inch of your plumbing to confirm that seals are secure, valves are operational, corrosion isn’t eating through pipes, and clogs aren’t creating an impending hazard.
